By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American

landscape painter Kris Buck (born 1951 in Santa Barbara, CA).

Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Kris has been seriously painting and exhibiting her work, both locally and nationally, over the past 15 years. An award-winning artist, Kris is primarily a plein air painter in soft pastels. She loves to be on location painting local scenes and traveling throughout Europe and the U.S. to paint.

Her “Artist Statement” is, and always has been, “the journey is the reward”. It’s the first thing she writes in every new sketchbook as a reminder. And Kris will tell anyone that her artistic journey has been more than she ever imagined it would be. That “journey” is going to amazing places to paint, being with new and old friends on a painting day, the struggles of making a painting work to her satisfaction, and the constant search for exciting new techniques and knowledge.

Kris was very lucky in the beginning to learn from some great pastelists …Albert Handel, Glenna Hartmann, and Richard McKinley who became her mentor, cheerleader, confidant and close friend. In fact, it was Richard’s encouragement that got her to start submitting her work out into the pastel world. That resulted in works being juried into prestigious shows like the International Assoc. of Pastel Societies (IAPS) 2017 Convention in Albuquerque, Pastel Society of America (2016 National Arts Club Grand Gallery in New York), IAPS 2016 Exhibit at the Salmagundi Club in New York, and the Pastel Society of the West Coast USA shows in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

Kris has most recently received awards from Uart 10th Anniversary Exhibition 2017, Pastel Journal Magazine “Pastel 100” 2017 Honorable Mention/Landscape, the Pastel Society of New Mexico Award at the PSWC 2015 USA show, to name a few.

Kris is a member of the Pastel Society of America, Santa Barbara Studio Artists, Santa Barbara Art Association and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Kris also firmly believes that her role on this journey is to share what she has learned along the way. She is often asked to demo her techniques to Art and Pastel Associations. And she is on the Board for the Student Art Fund, which raises money for junior and senior high school art classes since funding for the arts has been drastically cut in the public schools. Kris loves every opportunity she has to paint but also believes in going full circle by giving back and helping others on their own artistic journeys.
