By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American

landscape painter Karen Israel (born 1959 in Queens, NY).

Karen Israel is an artist deeply concerned with creating interesting concept and dynamic composition. Stylistically she strives for agility and lets the mood and form of the subject dictate her approach. These subjects are rendered with a strong appreciation for the rigors of formal design coupled with a fearless array of color choices.

Karen has been focusing on pastels as her medium for over a decade. Once at her easel, she often considers a comprehensive underpainting to influence her vision. Karen’s favorite time to paint is first light when the morning sun softens the natural world and unfailingly reveals unexpected perspectives.

Prior to painting full time, Karen worked as a physical therapist and her passion for teaching is evident in her many demonstrations, workshops and rigorous pastel classes.

Karen has studied with many great artists over the years, most notably Christine Ivers, Richard McKinley, Claudia Post, Tony Allain, Margaret Dyer and Leslie Lillian Levy. She is most inspired by the works of John Singer Sergeant, Camille Pissarro and the impressionists.

Karen is a nationally-recognized, award-winning artist. These honors include Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America; Master Circle Member of the International Association of Pastel Societies; Signature Member and the President of the Connecticut Pastel Society; Artist Member of the Catharine Lorillaird Wolfe Art Club,Artist Member of the Salmagundi Club, NYC, Elected Member of the Audubon Artists Association, Elected Member of the Academic Artists Association and Elected Member of the American Artist’s Professional League.

Karen is teacher and instructing demonstrator for many art organizations and she conducts demos and Pastel Workshops both privately and through art organizations. She has also served as the Juror for the Art Guild of Middletown’s Member’s Exhibit, Vermont Pastel Society’s Member’s Exhibit, The Adirondack Pastel Society’s National Exhibit and The New Jersey Pastel Society’s Member Exhibit.

Karen’s pastel paintings have been awarded twice, Third Place in the Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100 in 2012 and 2014.

                       ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“It is through painting that I meditate, leaving the real world's problems behind me. When I stand before my easel, I try to quiet my experience, training and expectations. Then I am in a frame of mind to allow the unfolding painting to be my guide. My final intent is a visual interpretation of what my heart feels and what my mind sees.”
