Feature Artist Bio
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary
Canadian landscape painter Kathy Dolan (born 1958 in Schefferville, Quebec).
Kathy loved to draw as a child and enjoyed the art classes she took throughout high school. Marriage, work and raising a family took her away from her art, and it wasn’t until the late 90’s when she took a watercolor course at a local college that her passion was rekindled. Very soon after this she entered her first juried art exhibition: the 22nd Annual La Cloche Art Show. Not only were one of her pieces accepted into the show, but it sold! This drove her commitment to learn by taking workshops from both local and internationally know artists.
From florals, to landscapes to people and wildlife; she is compelled to capture a true sense of life and light in her paintings. In the search to achieve this; she’s constantly experimenting and learning different mediums.
Kathy Dolan is an international award-winning artist who has exhibited in juried and group exhibitions in Canada and the U.S., and debuted a solo show in 2014 . She has won awards for her pastels, graphite, watercolor, photography, and oil paintings. As well as being a finalist in a floral art competition in 2013, Kathy was also featured in an eight-page article titled ‘Inside The Artist’s World’ in the ‘International Artist’ magazine Dec/Jan 2016 Issue, Her achievements also include recipient of the ‘Ivan Wheale’ award at the 38th Annual La Cloche Art Show and 2nd prize in Pastel Artists of Canada’s 20th Annual open juried exhibition. Kathy has also had her pencil portraits published in various art magazines.
Kathy currently holds “Master Pastellist” designation with the Pastel Artists Canada(MPAC, PAC) and is a signature member of The Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) and Northern Ontario Art Association N.O.A.A. She is a member of the Pencil Art Society, Sudbury Art Club and Sudbury Art Council.
Kathy has taught numerous workshops in different mediums and also shares her talent by volunteering to teach weekly classes to a group where she winters in Florida.
Kathy’s works can be found in corporate and private collections in North America and Abroad. Corporate collections include an original watercolor painting of the old Domtar powerhouse before it was refurbished. A print of this painting was put in the town’s 100 year time capsule which will be opened in 2102.
Kathy lives in Espanola with her husband Paul, where she finds plenty of inspiration in her beautiful surroundings.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I’ve always felt the need to share my art. Painting not only for self gratification, but also the hope that others can share in my wonderment. I don’t merely want you to see what I saw; my goal is that my paintings will transcend your senses; and you’ll feel as though you could walk into the painting; feel the sunlight on your face, hear the sounds of nature, and perhaps walk a bit deeper into the forest.
By recreating the scene realistically, paying attention to the textures, shapes and colours in the landscape and how the sunlight affects them, I hope that I can achieve this.”
