  Feature Artist Bio

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary

American landscape painter Jacquelyn Blue (born 1942 in Irvington, N.J.).

Jacquelyn Blue has been an artist for as long as she can remember. As a kid, she and her twin sister would draw on newsprint with charcoal while watching the John Gnagy “Learn to Draw” art show on TV. She grew up in a small town in New Jersey but moved to California after high school. She graduated with honors from California State University with a degree in Art History. Fortunately, she took some valuable drawing and design classes while pursuing her history degree.

Her best decision was signing on for workshops with Kim Lordier and Richard McKinley, who influenced and encouraged her return to fine art. She went on to study with Lynn Gertenbach, John Budicin, Susan Ogilvie and, more recently, Barbara Jaenicke. She continues a mentorship with Richard McKinley, who travels to Santa

Barbara every spring for a reunion/workshop that is always inspiring. Jackie realizes how fortunate it is that today’s artists are able to receive such fabulous instruction both in the field and online.

Jackie’s work has been accepted into many prestigious exhibitions and she has been awarded her Signature Membership in the Pastel Society of the West Coast. Recently, her pastel, “Illuminated Wave” was juried into the International Association of Pastel Societies’ show held at the Salmagundi Art Club in New York. In 2014 she was commissioned by the Santa Monica Conservancy to paint King Gillette Ranch as a gift for the outgoing Los Angeles County Supervisor, Zev Yaroslavsky.

Jackie’s first love is oil and pastel painting en plein air. Not only does it give her an excuse to be in the outdoors (the reason she moved to California), but provides endless inspiration for new paintings. She still paints with her twin and sometimes they collaborate on a single painting.

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I’m fortunate to live on the coast of Southern California with incredible views of the Pacific Ocean right outside my doors. As a result, I am artistically influenced by the ever changing tides, cloud formations, wave action, sounds and smells of the ocean.

I paint outdoors weekly with my artist friends and monthly with the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica & Seashore. Our intention, through our work, is to remind our neighbors of the beauty in the parks and recreation areas around us so they will, like us, want to continue to conserve it for future generations.
