Feature Artist Bio
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary
American landscape painter Kathy Falla Howard (born 1958 in Ontario, Canada).
While Kathy was born in Canada, her family immigrated to the United States when she was a young child, relocating to Phoenix, Arizona. During her years in high school, she excelled in any type of art, craft or drawing class. In college while pursing a career outside of art, she continued her art education at the junior college and Arizona State University. The following years were spent raising a family, building and running the family business that her and her husband started just out of high school. Even though a career in art was put on the back burner, Kathy never stopped expressing her creativity through other outlets, pursuing and appreciating beauty in everyday life through crafting, photography, interior design, architectural design and art collecting.
Once deciding to return to fine art, it became a ever-consuming passion, selecting pastel as her medium of choice and studying under some of the finest artists in the country such as Lorenzo Chavez, Jill Carver, Kim Lordier, Eric Merrell and Skip Whitcomb. Through these teachers Kathy discovered the true connection to the beauty of the landscape through plein air painting, or simply, painting outside, the thrill of chasing the light and consuming the beauty of the landscape. Most often people comment that her work portrays a sense of depth, space and tranquility.
Kathy was selected as an artist-in-residence for the National Parks at Hubble Trading Post National Historic Site in 2014 and the Petrified Forest National Park in 2013, living and working within the park, creating works for two weeks.
Recently Kathy's work was selected and awarded Honorable Mention from the Pastel Journal magazine as a part of their 18th annual Pastel 100 Competition from over 2,000 entries. Her work will be published in the April 2017 Issue of the Pastel Journal.
Her work was selected to be a part of the show "Desert Harmony" at the Arizona-Sonora-Desert Museum, February - March 2017.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“To me, handling the pure pigment of pastels is fascinating and beautiful, offering the ability for delicate glazing creating a vibration of color not possible with other mediums.
The joy of painting in Plein Air allows me to hold, embrace and examine, just for a moment, all the beauty that surrounds me.”
