Feature Artist Bio
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Matt Chinian (born 1961 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA).

Matt grew up in Newton and began to paint at Newton North High School (1979). His studies included a summer of cast and landscape drawing, in the academic atelier of R.H. Ives Gammell in Williamstown, MA.
Matt graduated from Bennington College in 1983, majoring in sculpture. His work there was not academic, although he used the figure in symbolic terms. He continued to study Sculpture and earned an M.F.A from SUNY Albany in 1988.
After graduate school Matt went on to make and exhibit sculpture until about 1995 or so and had jobs in public sculpture fabrication, children’s museum exhibits, sign making, architectural model making, fiberglass casting, etc
In 1989 Matt moved to Cambridge, NY where he worked in carpentry and specialized in traditional window restoration. In 1998, he married Alane Ball and together they had Emma in 1999 and Hope in 2004. Around 2010 he returned to landscape drawing. By April, 2012 he returned to painting.
