By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American
landscape painter Ann Gillespie (born 1961 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania).

Ann Gillespie became interested in art in high school shortly after her family moved from New Jersey to Rhode Island. She majored in Studio Arts at Hamilton College, in Clinton, New York. After graduation she went on to a successful career in graphic design and eventually married and started a family.
As her children got older she also eventually made time for exploring her own artwork again, initially monotype printmaking for its expressive spontaneity. But after taking a pastel class in the summer of 2012, she realized that pastels were more suitable for fitting in to her busy life. It was also at this time that landscape painting became her main subject.
Gillespie’s personal experiences in nature are what motivate her, inspiring her to capture the light and color and uniqueness of time and place. Her monotype background still informs her desire to make the process of creating art an expressive and spontaneous experience.
Today she balances her freelance graphic design business with her artwork. Gillespie has won awards in both printmaking and pastel and her works are found in many private and corporate collections throughout New England as well as private collections in Florida, France and Israel.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I am continually inspired by the New England landscape and glimpses of scenes that I see around me every day. My goal is to capture the feeling of a time and place, rather than create an exact representation of every detail in front of me.
At the same time I do spend a lot of time observing the subtleties of light, color and form, and their relationships to each other. The scenes that I am most excited by when I am out in nature, are the ones that I find simultaneously exhilarating and peaceful."
