By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature works by contemporary Russian Impressionist landscape painter Olya Cheney (born Olga Alexandrovna Kovalova in 1972), our third contemporary artist on the new website.

Originally from Semipalatinsk, Shyghys Qazaqstan, Kazakhstan, Olya has always harbored a love for art. As a result of her father’s military service (he was an officer) she has lived in many places in the Russian Regions. Living on military bases, Olya was unable to attend formal art school, but this didn’t stop her from dreaming of a life as an artist. She spent countless hours watching local artists paint on the streets of Ukraine. Inspired by the works of Paul Rubens and Isaac Levitan, she pursued her craft, employing a local folk decorative style.

While Olya has taken a few art courses at Weber State University, Utah, the majority of her training has come from books, watching others and practicing on her own. Living in such places as Kazakhstan, Russia, Sakhalin (Island above Japan), California and now Utah, has influenced and shaped her artistic style.

Olya is a mix between East and West and her art is the perfect bridge between Russia and Utah. Now that her four children are older, she has been fully able to focus on her art, experimenting with different mediums and styles.
