By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter RH Crombie (born 1952 in Ohio, USA).

“There is nothing like the filtered sun through tall trees. The scent of fallen wet leaves and the sound of the stream rushing by.”As a child, the woods were a safe haven for Rob Crombie. He was fortunate to also have access to many metro parks in the suburbs east of Cleveland. The trees and streams were constant, predictable and peaceful, unlike the atmosphere at home. His creativity in nature was also present in his work all through school and on to Cooper School of Art in Cleveland as well as Kent State University. Once he completed school, he was to leave his creativity on canvas and paper for 30 years.

It was the 60’s and 70’s. Rob was distracted by substances other than paint and ink. After 13 years he was blessed to begin the journey back to reality. Hard work, a career, divorced and going to the gym didn’t quite satisfy the boredom inside. At the insistence of a close friend for almost two years, Rob finally returned to painting as a “hobby." No intention to display or sell. No idea of what to paint or how to use oils. Hundreds and hundreds of canvases were his basis for learning. He soon found his calling to paint landscapes and trees with an impressionistic style. “It just feels right. It feels natural to me. Maybe an homage to my appreciation for nature in my earlier years.”

Rob has sold hundreds of paintings in the past 15 years. He has visited and painted Provence 10 times in the past 11 years. Regarding his achievements he states, “My success doesn’t lie in awards, recognition or sales. It comes in absolutely loving each and every painting I do. It’s a challenge, an obsession, an inside job.” Rob has taught and done workshops as well as private lessons. His studio, a small room in his home, has had up to 48” x 72” paintings on the easel. “My whole world has changed. I have been changed. Once you dedicate yourself as a painter of nature, you never see your world the same again. Its beauty is spiritual and joy in one.”

Twelve Pieces by Contemporary Artist

                     RH Crombie (Born 1952)

                     ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“The focus of my work on nature was seriously enhanced once I was exposed to the Olive and Platane trees in the south of France, 2005. The meadows, wheat fields and rocky slopes of the Alpilles are amazing to me. The sun, the wind, the scent in the air. Magical. My respect for the French way of life and tradition is on my mind as I work or plan my next piece. The words to express my gratitude to God, to people who enjoy these pieces, to the joy and frustration I feel as I paint all seem small by comparison to what healing and contentment I have inside.”
