By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Katerina Ring (born 1967 in Coronado, California).

Katerina studied graphic and textile design at the University of California, Davis before pursuing postgraduate studies through the University of Georgia in Cortona, Italy. She also studied drawing and painting in Germany, Florence, New Mexico and California (with several plein air painters) and at Scottsdale Artists’ School, Arizona.

Her subject matter and media have evolved in the past 15 years from very detailed Tuscan still lifes in watercolor to pastel landscapes on textured surfaces, to semi-impressionistic and abstract oils of animal and plant life. Throughout, there has always been a graphic element to her work, and an obvious love for rich colors.

Through her paintings in Italy, Katerina aims to honor the architecture (and its harmony within the natural surroundings) of centuries of genius and craft. The work she produces in Zambia ties together two of her life’s passions: design and animals. Through her paintings she strives to express her wonder at these two worlds, and create awareness and appreciation of history’s importance and nature’s fragility.

                     ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

"I am a wanderer who needs to be physically in touch with nature to feel alive. From the USA to Germany to Italy to Zambia, the sights, sounds, smells, tastes and textures of a locality call me. My paintings are combination of impressionistic wildlife and abstracted, patterned backgrounds, or  painted directly from life en plein air. I paint the natural world: animals and trees, landscapes and weather, because they are extraordinary, and I want others to take another look, and keep looking.

I am also motivated by my lifelong goal to leave the world a better place than how I found it when I arrived in 1967. Since early childhood I have been involved in some means of fundraising, activism, lobbying or employment in support of environmental protection and the rights of all creatures with whom we share this planet. By my actions and choices, I live as simply and sincerely as I can, and I use my paintbrush and colors to speak for the voiceless."
