Feature Artist Bio
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Keith Gunderson (born 1957 in Chicago, Illinois).
Keith’s early interest in art was encouraged by his parents who enrolled him in art courses at the nearby Evanston Art Center. It was here that he found mentors and was soon exhibiting his work. Just out of high school he was hired by the Chicago Tribune as an editorial and lineage illustrator where he flourished in the fast-paced atmosphere of daily deadlines and found himself in a short time an assistant to noted cartoonists, Dick Locher and Chester Gould of Dick Tracy fame. During this time he was studying drawing with George Sotos at the acclaimed Studio Four workshop in Chicago. At this time he attended workshops with illustrators Gil Stone and Mark English, who encouraged him to seek out greater challenges.
Keith applied to and was awarded a scholarship to Art Center College in Pasadena. At Art Center he was greatly influenced by Harry Carmean and John Asaro. A trip to New York was an artistic epiphany for him and he subsequently relocated there to study at the Art Students League, National Academy, and New York Academy of Art. It was here that he studied with Frank Mason, Nelson Shanks, David Leffel, and Gustav Rehberger.
Keith is a current and past member of the Salmagundi Club, Hudson Valley Art Association, Audubon Artists, and Oil Painters of America. Exhibited widely, his drawings and paintings are in numerous private collections worldwide. He currently teachers popular workshops and classes at the Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock, NY, the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin, FL, The Artists Collective of Hyde Park in Hyde Park, NY , and at the Jacaruso Studio & Gallery in Rhinebeck, NY.
His work can be seen at Sheldon Fine Art in Naples, FL, the Mark Gruber Gallery in New Paltz, NY, Four India Gallery in Nantucket, MA, and Ocean Reef Gallery in Key Largo, FL. He participates in many plein air events throughout the Northeast and Florida and enjoys working and teaching from his studio in the Hudson Valley.
