By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American painter

Pat Carney (Born 1949 in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri).

Pat loves to paint! She was born and raised on a farm in Missouri where she began to draw and paint. She loved being able to walk and play in the wooded areas and along the creek at the farm. She enjoyed trying to reproduce what she observed about the natural world and loved the special recognition she received for being able to do art. A fine arts scholarship enabled her to go to college to earn a B.A. and later an M.A. in Fine Arts from universities in Colorado. Attracted to the teaching profession, she taught art and later history as well as completing a Ph.D. in European History. After a teaching career of almost thirty years, she retired to put her energy again into painting full time. Pat was able to develop additional skills with continued study at the Art Students League of Denver, Scottsdale Art School, and a summer in Italy. Now that she lives in Boulder, she still finds that sense of connectedness to nature on the open space trails and parks of Colorado. While many of her paintings depict Colorado scenes, she also takes her gear on trips throughout the Great Plains, the Southwest, and abroad.

An enthusiastic plein-air painter, Pat works on location and then takes studies, sketches, color notes and photo references back to her studio to create finished works of art.  Painting is the means of expressing her love for the process and her feelings about portraying the light and color which attracts her to a particular subject. In her immediate surroundings, she looks for a visual spark along with a personal connection to a subject to get started. An impetus could be the drama of light and shadow or the richness of color evoking a feeling or mood. By selecting appropriate color choices and a clear visual approach, Pat invites viewers to see the beauty and sense of place that drew her to paint a subject so they too will be engaged by the natural world.

An award-winning artist, Pat has shown extensively in juried national, regional, and local exhibitions. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, Plein Air Artists of Colorado, American Women Artists, and American Plains Artists. Pat has also participated in the Colorado Governor’s Invitational Show, the Mountain Oyster Club Exhibition, and Salon International. She currently shows at Framed Image in Denver.

Twelve Pieces by Contemporary Artist

                       ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I attempt to depict the essence of my subject to communicate its special qualities that will resonate with viewers. Crucial to this process is depicting light and color relationships. Before starting a painting, I study the direction and color temperature of the light and analyze its effects on the subject. Then selecting appropriate colors and making my visual approach clear are important in creating a successful work. These tools help me to convey what I see that feeds my soul and I want others to see that beauty as well.
