By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by French painter
Florence Penouty (born 1965 in Paris, France).
While Florence Penouty says she has been "observing and drawing forever," it was at the age of ten that she discovered she wanted to make a living out of art. It was on a rainy Sunday at the Grand Sud International Pastel Salon that Florence truly discovered pastel art. First and foremost this was thanks to the works of Sophie Amauger, a master Pastellist. She was taken by the way Sophie used light on her subjects and felt a true emotional resonance with the delicacy of her work. Florence was touched by nature framed, full of the artist’s sensitivity and emotion born from initial impression, and intrigued by the use of the medium that Sophie was using to push boundaries. She was emotionally shaken when she left the salon and the luminous display, and the truth finally sunk in: Pastel was the way forward, it was light as she had always wanted to represent it, the one she had always been looking for.
After a professional career in graphic design, her late discovery of pastel was a revelation. More than by the technique and the texture, she was attracted to the enormous range of possibilities offered by the medium. In 1992, pursuing higher education in Interior Architecture and Graphic Design in Paris, she was class valedictorian.
From 1992-2004 Florence was Art Director, and Creative Director in a Communication Agency in Paris.
Most of Florence's greatest influences are among the impressionists. She has a particular love of Monet and the skies represented by Eugene Boudin. Among modern artists that have influenced her work are Sophie Amauger, Isaac Levitan, Jacob Aguilar, Marcel Moulin, Mark Bohne, Peter Thomas, Sheila Goodman, and many others.
In 2016, Florence attended several courses with Maitre Pastelliste Sophie Amauger. These courses, whether outdoor or in the studio, have ensured the progression of her technique, and the evolution of her art. Having worked from life, directly in contact with nature.
Today Florence lives in Occitanie, southern France.

Florence Penouty (Born 1965)
“I do not have a great theory on Art, and do not look for it, because theories are always reductive. I only know that the world needs beauty and that when I paint nature, I feel alive and happy. I am an attentive witness of its fragile splendor.
My inspirational subjects are born of light, revealing the beauty of nature and the emotion it arouses. If she is present, then there is almost certainly something fascinating, that catches me and does not let go. To translate this magic moment into powdery language, and to try to restore it with naturalness and finesse, is my deep inspiration.”
