By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by Irish painter

Olivia O'Carra (Born 1944 in County Limerick, Ireland).

Olivia is based in Killarney in south west Ireland, an area renowned for the beauty of its scenery. Living as she does right beside a National Park she is surrounded by woodland lakes and mountains and is less than one hour's drive away from the Wild Atlantic coastline. It is hardly surprising therefore that her main interest should be in Landscape painting. She loves to spend as much time as she can wandering in the Park which provides the main inspiration for her work.

Although Olivia has been sketching and painting since her childhood. Her background is in the Sciences, having previously worked as a Medical Physicist and later after moving to Killarney upon marrying her husband, Eoin she taught Biology and Physics in local schools for many years. In 2003 she took an early retirement package and with her five daughters having flown the nest she found she now had the opportunity  to concentrate on her painting. Since then over 500 of her paintings have found homes in private collections world wide.

Largely self- taught, Olivia has benefited greatly from the guidance of local artist Mark Eldred, who introduced her to oil painting, which has remained her preferred medium, and also from the many Workshops she has attended. Her first solo exhibition at The Frank Lewis Gallery in 2007 was a sellout. Since then she has had many exhibitions both group and solo. For a number of years she was part of an Artist’s Cooperative running their own Gallery  in Killarney town. She has also been a member of Tralee Art CollectiveVisual Artists of Ireland and exhibits with the group Wild Atlantic Artists.

Olivia’s work is mainly representational but also expressive and gestural, as she aims to convey her feelings when viewing a subject that excites her interest or induces a feeling of deep calm and stillness that she wishes to share. Known particularly for her depiction of water, Olivia attributes this in part to the many hours she has spent studying the ecology of ponds and streams or just simply enjoying the peace and tranquility that the sound of trickling water always evokes. Her paintings often begin life as small studies painted outdoors which inspire larger works painted later in her studio. She usually paints in a traditional manner, building up in layers starting with thin paint applied with brushes and gradually adding thicker paint with brushes, knives, rags and whatever tool may be at hand to create the effect she is aiming for.

Twelve Pieces by Contemporary Artist

                       ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I love to spend time exploring the countryside and my paintings usually begin life as small pieces painted outdoors which inspire my larger studio paintings.

I paint in a traditional manner building up in layers starting with fairly thin paint but gradually adding thicker paint in an impasto fashion with knives, fingers, brushes and

whatever is at hand. My style is representational. I am hoping to convey the feeling of being in that special place.”
