ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I am inspired by my own travels. Places and people offer me new scenarios and feelings to pour into my painting. Europe, USA, Asia, all cultures suggest diversity, to which I want to be the eye witness. On the other hand, art is a lens that translates the outside world for me to understand it and connect to humanity.
My way to achieve this is either paint on location, or take notes and draw sketches when I travel. I strive to work by memory, which requires a deeper observation; I select only what really reso-nates within. If I use my own photos I draw an edited version of the subject. Then I decide my own color arrangement, according to my mood and pre-mix a limited number of colors on my palette. At this point the brushwork should be (or at least appear) the easiest and most effortless. In other words, the painting should paint itself!
Ultimately I want the viewer to get lost in a timeless story. It's my highest reward. And a bet every single time.”

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American painter
Nickie Barbee (born 1950 in Nebraska, USA).
Nickie Barbee is an emerging artist, working in oils. Her work is representational with the goal of capturing and conveying creative inspiration to the viewer.
Nickie began her creative journey as a teen, encouraged by her artist grandfather. His interest and guidance made all the difference to this then, budding artist. She continued to take classes and paint while working full-time. She retired as a management analyst working in process improvement and has been painting professionally since 2015.
She has studied with numerous teachers over the years, with her most influential being Michelle Philip, at the Classical Art Academy in Boulder, CO. She has furthered her study by attending workshops given by nationally-acclaimed artists including David Santillanes, Jane Hunt and Sheri Farabaugh. The authors Richard Schmid, Edgar Payne, and John Carlson along with others have also influenced her work.
Nickie's realistic, detailed style is inspired by Colorado’s enduring beauty and travel to locations throughout the United States and abroad. This travel, with her husband, has provided new perspectives and wide-ranging subject matter for her paintings. She especially strives to convey the feel, uniqueness and sense of place in her subject matter. She finds oil painting to be an absorbing, compelling medium to communicate with.
She has received awards at local and national venues, is a member of Oil Painters of America, along with two local art associations.
