By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American painter Jim Laurino (born 1961 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina).
Jim began painting as a teenager and eventually studied design and color theory at the University of Connecticut. Over time he formed a more lasting interest in painting landscapes, and particularly enjoys working on-site, or “en plein air”. Through workshops and self-study, Jim has cultivated a unique representational painting style that balances the impressionists' influence with contemporary subject matter.
Jim constructs frames for all of his paintings. The frames, which are made out of reclaimed wood material, fashion a rustic window into each piece, subtly complimenting his work.
Jim’s paintings are found in numerous private collections. He exhibits in galleries and competitive events throughout the Northeast, most recently placing Third Place in the N.E. Landscape invitational (Lyme Art Association – Sept 2017), as well as receiving an Honorable Mention at the 2017 Hudson Valley Plein air competition held in October.
Jim is a recently-elected member of the Lyme Art Association. In January 2018 he will showcase his work in the gallery as part of the newly-elected artists' exhibit.
His work is represented by the Art Gallery at Shutterspeed in Middlebury, CT, and also by Devon House Gallery in Old Saybrook, CT. Jim does periodic demos and workshops regionally, and posts upcoming events on his web page (see below).
