By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by British landscape

painter Michael Samson (born 1959 in Ramsgate, UK).

Mike Samson is based in the seaside town of Ramsgate in the UK. He is a self-taught painter in oils and watercolors. He always enjoyed art as a teenager and attended the local Art School. He joined the Army in 1974, during which time he continued to draw and paint as a hobby. In 1986 Mike left the Army and went to work in the paper industry. In his free time he would paint whenever time allowed and whenever family life permitted.

 

After a chance meeting with an old Headmaster from his primary school days, Mr. Ralph Martin, Mike joined Acol Art Group. During one of the group exhibitions Mike was introduced to Matthew Alexander. Matthew introduced him to the serious pursuit of 'On site painting' (Plein Air) and in many ways taught Mike 'to see' beyond the obvious and encouraged him to understand the landscape using paint.

Mike took early retirement in 2012 and spent many months in his studio and on site in the landscape learning to hone his craft and develop his own language with paint. He now paints daily 'plein air', the UK landscape is a constant inspiration for him. Although more recently he has been working on 'cityscape' work in London, using his small onsite paintings as reference for larger studio pieces completed in his Ramsgate studio.
