The Cyber Art Show

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Karla Nolan (born 1948 in Grand Junction, Colorado).
Karla Nolan (nee Koppel) has lived in Colorado for the majority of her life. She resided in St. Louis, Missouri, for five years and in Maplewood, New Jersey, for ten years. Living close to New York City was a determining factor in becoming a visual artist, as she could easily travel into the City and visit major museums and galleries. Her father influenced her greatly, also, as he was a pastelist, as well as a talented portraitist. Karla met her husband, Don, in college. He has been extremely encouraging in her desire to paint in various media.
Known for her vibrant colors and experimental techniques, she is primarily self-taught and has taken classes in oil and in pastel painting from Clive Tyler, Daniel Edmondson and Lani Vlandereen. Karla enjoys painting landscapes, skyscapes, and travel memories, as well as floral inspirations. Her painting style could be categorized as "abstract realism" or "realism abstracted".
During 2011 she discovered that she had Stage One breast cancer, which put her art career on hold for 18 months. She has recovered from both radiation and surgery treatments and resumed her daily painting.
In 2003 Karla won the Ninth Annual Northern Colorado Artists Association (NCAA) "Paint the Town" First Place Award and in late 2004 the Edgar Degas Pastel Award from the Colorado Coalition of Artists (CoCOA) National Fall Show. Her works are in private collections throughout the U.S. and overseas and available at several galleries and online.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"Life is an onion and one peels it crying." -- French proverb
"Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving and recalling treasured moments. These are the reasons I paint and produce artwork. The acts of creativity are surely some of the most pleasant and yet difficult of all experiences. Color and form are my special friends. The challenge of perfecting the artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life."
"Life is short, use color!" -- Karla Nolan
