By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary Canadian landscape painter Perry Haddock (born 1946 in Berkeley, California).

Born in California, Perry was raised in Vancouver, BC. After a long career as a repressed high-school teacher and counselor, Perry retired in 2003 to become a free man. Unrestricted by school bells and adolescents, his inner creative self suddenly exploded with colour and a passion for stretched canvas. Since that time, Perry has become a popular and respected landscape artist, best known for his colourful, impressionistic renditions of Western Canadian scenes. In 2012 he was awarded senior signature status (SFCA) by the Federation of Canadian Artists, an honour from his peers which he carries with pride.

Perry’s work reflects his love of western Canada, and especially the coast of B.C. near his home, but his travels throughout Canada and Europe have enriched his imagination and his palette. His portfolio of paintings includes many scenes from his travels, from the Alberta foothills to Newfoundland shorelines, French markets, and Chinese alleyways. He is a prolific painter, with a loose and spontaneous approach to his work. He likes nothing more than a chance to pack up his brushes and head to a nearby riverbank or forest glade, where he’ll spend a couple of hours recording his impressions of his immediate world. Those small plein-air paintings become the inspiration for larger and more complex studio pieces, which challenge Perry to retain the spirit and freshness of the on-site sessions.

Perry paints from his home in Surrey, B.C., where he lives with his wife, Rene. Their two daughters and four grandchildren live in Europe--a serendipitous coincidence which prompts a need for frequent visits.

Perry is represented by galleries in western Canada and the U.S.

Twelve Pieces by Contemporary Artist

                   Perry Haddock (Born 1946)

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"For me, art is simply a way of expressing mood. Whether I paint or sing or play a tuba, I’m expressing my personal reaction to my world at a given moment, so I want my paintings to reveal something of my emotion and my personality to those who see them.

Although my subjects range from Italian coastal bays and Parisian markets to western Canadian landscapes, I’m always searching for the simplest expression of the moment, the image which evokes an impression rather than a detailed rendering. Perhaps that’s why I enjoy painting “en plein air” or doing pen and ink sketches on site as sources for paintings which I later develop in my studio. "
