By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter Becky Harblin (born 1952 in Peru, New York).

A trained painter, Becky majored in art and did course work at San Diego State University. She worked at The New Yorker magazine, and several newspapers and trade publications. In recent years she has begun not only to paint again, but to sculpt in various media, and take photos with her old SLR camera. She writes nearly daily from her home in rural upstate New York. The poems have been published locally and on the internet on The New Verse News. In September 2012, a book of her poems, Eating the Bread of this World was published by Glover Publishing.

In the last fifteen years Becky has begun to incorporate her studies in Amazonian Shamanism and spirituality into her work in poetic form.

              ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“Our understanding of our belonging to the natural world continues to be eroded by our intimacy with technology and our human-centric values. Many old/indigenous cultures view everything that exists in this world as belonging to one of the main elements: earth, fire, water, or air. The earth-based cultures see their surroundings as whole and integrated. My work in sculpture, poetry, painting, and as a healing ‘practitioner is intended to reconnect us with our roots and to earth.

I hope the viewer will remember the value of walking in nature, and feel how we are fated to live or die together. We are one, and the earth tells the story.I can only hope my work can facilitate the telling.”
