ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I am inspired by my own travels. Places and people offer me new scenarios and feelings to pour into my painting. Europe, USA, Asia, all cultures suggest diversity, to which I want to be the eye witness. On the other hand, art is a lens that translates the outside world for me to understand it and connect to humanity.
My way to achieve this is either paint on location, or take notes and draw sketches when I travel. I strive to work by memory, which requires a deeper observation; I select only what really reso-nates within. If I use my own photos I draw an edited version of the subject. Then I decide my own color arrangement, according to my mood and pre-mix a limited number of colors on my palette. At this point the brushwork should be (or at least appear) the easiest and most effortless. In other words, the painting should paint itself!
Ultimately I want the viewer to get lost in a timeless story. It's my highest reward. And a bet every single time.”

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by British painter
Elizabeth Tyler (born 1946 in Leamington Spa, England).
Elizabeth Tyler divides her time between living and working at her studio in Southern Sweden and solo sailing and painting on board her boat in Greece. She has been a professional artist for five decades and exhibits her artworks regularly at galleries and art museums in Sweden, Denmark and Finland. In recent years she has also participated in international art exhibitions worldwide.
She is the author of “Akvarelbogen” (The watercolour book) published by Gyldendals publishing house in Copenhagen, 2005. The ebook “Watercolour in detail” published in 2012 is also written and illustrated by her. Her subject matter has always been inspired by her nearest surroundings. From drawings of street scenes in the city she went on to anonymous portraits of fellow passengers on the train. Later the microscopic details of wild vegetation were her inspiration for watercolours and larger-than-life acrylic paintings. Now, as she sails alone aboard her 31-ft sailboat around the Greek islands for several months a year, she is totally inspired by the sea. Working in watercolours or acrylics on canvas she paints mostly en plein air. Sometimes she works from the cockpit while at anchor, other times she takes her dinghy ashore to paint on the beach. Back at her studio in Sweden she works with etchings, engravings and lithographs. Her large-format acrylic paintings are also created in the studio. Other activities include producing art educational videos about her somewhat unconventional painting techniques. Lately her inspirational presentations and talks have become increasingly popular in the Nordic countries.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“I have always drawn or painted my surroundings. Its a way of conveying my experiences to others, of telling a story without words.
In the beginning it was urban landscapes and people. Later I was fascinated by the details of wild vegetation, weeds and undergrowth.
Now, it’s the sea that surrounds me for many months of the year, so that’s what I paint as I sit alone on my boat. I am often in a kind of trance as I brush layer over layer of colour onto the canvas or paper. My brain hardly registers the gently rocking motion of the boat while my body automatically adjusts and compensates continuously.
Although the paintings all revolve around the sea and the beach they depict different moods, different situations, different times of the day or year and also different locations, oceans apart.
In each painting I invariably hope to convey some very special experiences to others and to spread the feeling of humbleness and respect in the presence of the sea.”
