By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary Swedish landscape painter Lena Thynell (born 1955 in Sweden).

Lena moved to the United States in the summer of 2011. She lives with her husband nearby State College, PA. Lena got her education in watercolor painting at the Gerlesborg Art School in Sweden, located north of Gothenburg on the beautiful Swedish west coast.

She is an art instructor at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania. After a long career as a registered nurse, nurse midwife and department head in Sweden, watercolor has now become an important part of her life. She has recently started to paint on location, "en plein air," which gives her much joy and new inspiration. "It's a challenge to paint on location and that's what I like," Lena states.

Lena has participated in Juried Art Shows as well as solo art shows in Sweden and has recently started to show and sell her work in the USA.

Lena achieved Pennsylvania Watercolor Society Signature Status, PWS, in 2015 and Philadelphia Watercolor Society Signature Status 2016.She received a Pennsylvania Watercolor Society Honorary Award in 2014 for her watercolor painting "Water Ways." Lena is on the Bellefonte Art Museum art registry and a member of Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania.

Twelve Pieces by Contemporary Artist

                   Lena Thynell (Born 1955)

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"It is quite a challenge for me to distinguish between the Swedish west coast and the forest of Central Pennsylvania in a piece of artwork. The colors I choose are usually close to the colors of the scenery found in Scandinavia. In Scandinavia, there is a certain light, which is bright and grey at the same time. Furthermore, the colors are often low key- they are soft, dusty and harmonic. I am thrilled by interpreting the geographical differences between the landscapes, colors, vegetation and light."

In my art I aim to express a feeling or a mood of the object more than an exact picture. I try to create rather than duplicate.”
