By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Tom McGregor (born 1952 Jamestown, North Dakota).

Tom McGregor’s earliest memories are of his time spent drawing on a large slate chalkboard in the back room of his mother’s business. He remembers being completely absorbed in his work. That feeling of total immersion is something he strives for every time he paints.

Since graduating from Minnesota State University, Moorhead in 1987 with a BFA in art, he’s pursued a career as a self-employed graphic designer with an office in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It wasn’t until he discovered plein air painting in 2007, that painting became his primary creative outlet again. It combines his passion for being outdoors with his love for painting. These days, he maintains his design business but is working towards being a full time painter.

McGregor strives for honesty in his work, trying to be true to what he sees and feels as a result of being immersed in nature. He tries to find, not just the beauty, but that which tells a story, has a history, affects him emotionally; but most of all, challenges him to think about where he is as a human being living in this particular time and place.

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"Growing up in Jamestown, North Dakota, one of my earliest memories is my mother setting me up with a large slate chalkboard in the back room of her business.

Even as a toddler, I loved spending long days filling and refilling the board with scenes from my imagination. I remember being completely absorbed in my work. That feeling of total immersion in a world of my own creation is something I strive for every time I paint."
