By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Louise Pond (born 1956 in Detroit, Michigan).

There was never a question in Louise's mind which direction her life would take, after her eighth-grade teacher secretly submitted a painting she did for an assignment to copy a Master's piece in monochromatic blue. Winning this prize put her on a life path that twisted and turned through a stint in the military, raising a family, college in between and basically the business of living. Through it all she kept her "art spirit" alive through every form of creative thought possible--crafting, textile work, murals, pottery--you name it, she did it.

So it was no surprise to family and friends when, after her children were raised and a strategic move to northern Michigan, that her career as a painter began. Drawn to the medium of pastel, and a serendipitous workshop with a local pastel artist, William Hosner, on the beautiful island of Mackinaw in the heart of the Straits, she set her course on the path she is on today. She was promised that hard work would produce results, and she took this to heart. She paints or is thinking about painting every day. Living in such a beautiful place makes it easy, just walking out her door is Lake Michigan, woods, rivers and orchards.

A Member of the Great Lakes Pastel Society, and one of the country's largest plein air painting groups, the Light Chasers of Sarasota, Florida, Louise is adding to her list of regional and national shows. She has entered and won plein air competitions up north as well as down south. She is now passing down her knowledge to interested students privately as well as group workshops. But painting alone, somewhere lost on a lonely road, amongst nature, she is in her happy place!

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I love pastels! The process of heading out into the field to paint en plein air, the pure joy of living in such a beautiful place such as northern Michigan, spending cold and cloudy winter months on the suncoast of Florida,

and sharing that beauty with others is what makes me happy."
