By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Christopher Copeland (born 1961 in St. Paul, Minnesota).

A 1983 graduate of the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota, Christopher has participated in numerous exhibitions beginning in 1986. In addition to his exhibits in Minneapolis and other Minnesota communities, Copeland has exhibited his work in New York, Boston and Ohio, as well as fielding gallery displays in Seattle, Scottsdale and Santa Fe.

Painting outdoors on location, Copeland's main concern has been to record nature's transient moments. Using loose-but-controlled brushwork, he works quickly to capture the atmospheric effects of light, shadow and color as they play on the land. Both emotional and expressive in content, his work is a testament to the mysterious beauty of nature.

Included among the artists to whom he pays homage are the American Impressionists: Willard Metcalf, John Twachtman, tonalists George Inness, Dwight William Tryon and painters Winslow Homer and George Bellows.

Christopher’s pastels may be found in corporate collections such as Marshall Fields, Mayo Clinic and Cargill Corporation. In 2007 he was the recipient of Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship Grant.

                         ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“Working with direct observations from nature, I look for abstract compositional elements of the landscape. These may be in the form of an outcropping of trees on the distant horizon or a shadow dividing a sundrenched field and a darkened sky. This provides me with the initial geometric arrangement to work from. Light, color, space, and form all become interacting principles in the expression of the painting... The environment plays an important part in establishing an identity in my work. The spareness of land, hills, and space contributes to the sense of place inherent in the painting.”
