                        ARTIST STATEMENT:

After pursuing a career in geology for 10 years, I decided to focus instead on my lifelong passion for art. I am inspired by modern masters such as Sargent, Sorolla , Zorn and Fechin as well as many contemporary artists today too numerous to mention. I strive to convey the essence and experience of tranquil moments in time and to create a respite from the stress and turmoil in the world.  In my paintings and drawings, I try to portray the beauty in ordinary subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed – in landscapes, as well as in portraits.  I am inspired by the captivating effects of light on a subject, even more than on specific subject matter itself.  Whenever possible, I work from life to accurately capture the true color/harmony, value, edges, and proportion lost in a photograph and to be forced to work quickly, without over-laboring.

I enjoy many subjects but a recurring theme is horses.  I developed a love of horses through my father, an avid horseman, and competed in equestrian events throughout my childhood.  I currently reside in Tyler, Texas with my husband, two daughters, and seven horses. Many of my landscape paintings are scenes from our ranch.
