OFFICIAL WEBSITE
By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by Canadian painter Denise Maxwell (born 1951 in Ontario, Canada).
Canadian artist Denise Maxwell lives on the Pacific West Coast of British Columbia in the Vancouver area. This Canadian coastline is an artist’s paradise, renowned for its beautiful snow-capped mountains, rainforests, picturesque waterways and expansive ocean views.
Denise’s interest in landscape painting started at a young age when she started sketching the flora and fauna around her childhood home. She grew up in Ontario surrounded by the same countryside that Canada’s Group of Seven painted. She spent many holidays with paint and canvas exploring the Ontario landscapes. Her early work was inspired by Tom Thomson and A. Y. Jackson in particular.
Denise discovered that working outdoors on location gave her pieces a fresher, more vibrant quality than working from photographs in a studio. Though for many years she worked as a graphic artist, she took every opportunity she could to head out to the country to paint landscapes.
Now dedicated full time to her painting, Denise works primarily in oils and en plein air whenever weather permits; still life or portraits in her studio when it doesn’t.
In recent years Denise has been studying with Barry John Raybould through his online campus, the Virtual Art Academy and in Italy where she did a workshop with Barry in Tuscany.
Her goal now is to develop her en plein air landscapes into larger studio paintings.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“Working for the last two years, with shows to produce work for, has been the best incentive to get me working daily, now my goal is not only to become the best painter I can be but also to produce beautiful pieces. As I practice expressing my captivation with beauty, I hope this will help you see and to be enchanted and captured by it as well.”
