By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American painter Mark Price (born 1958 in California, USA).

Born and raised in Southern California, Mark studied art history at San Diego University. It was here that he took several watercolor and drawing classes, which sparked his excitement in fine art. Mark admits his first attempts were far from perfect but nonetheless his passion began to blossom with the watercolor medium. Basically self- taught and ever diligent, he studied and read books to improve his paintings.

Years later Mark and his wife moved to Sarasota, FL where the tropical winds sweep thru his home studio, inspiring him on a daily basis. In order to fill his passion for art Mark enrolled in watercolor classes with nationally-recognized watercolor artist, Vlad Yeliseye and then renowned pastel artist, Barbra Archer-Baldwin. These classes took Mark’s work to a whole new level of depth. He has taken additional workshops with internationally-recognized artists, Aline Ordman and Hai-Ou Hou. Shortly thereafter, at the urging of family and friends, Mark began to sell his paintings and pursue art as a career

Mark’s artistic journey has been an exciting and meandering one. He enjoys watercolors, but recently is focusing more on pastels and the nuances of that medium. His representational landscapes and figurative pastel paintings reflect the beauty of remote, quiet places and moments of his intimate connection to mankind and nature. Mark’s always searching for exciting new techniques, knowledge, movement, colors, feel, textures and light.  He loves getting out into the great outdoors to paint plein air and capture first-hand the environmental mood, light and character of the location. A great example of his work is seen in the simple and concrete shapes of structures, boats and dramatic landscapes allowing for strong contrasts of light and shadow.

Mark’s recent trip to Havana, Cuba in Dec 2016 took his creative spark to a higher level altogether.  This trip left him with a large portfolio of urban landscape material to draw from for years to come. Mark will often sit on a reference photo or idea, working until the right materials and textures come together in his creative process.

In the last three years Mark has increasingly participated in plein air events and developed a love of this challenging expression. He now participates in quick-draw challenges, often given only a couple hours to complete a painting.

Mark is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America. He is also a member of Art Center of Sarasota and North Port Art Center, where he has received several Honorable Mention and Merit awards for his work.
