By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary British landscape painter Gaye Clear (born 1963 in Chichester, West Sussex, UK).
The seeds of Gaye's love of Art started as a child but came into fruition, when in 1991 she enrolled at Chichester College. Here she began studying in earnest, the fine techniques required in Mixed-media, Life drawing and Landscape. Finally finding her forte in floral watercolours, she initially spent years painting flowers. Ten years ago she started focusing on Seascapes, and hasn't looked back.
Gaye has honed her skills through hard work and determination to achieve her own distinctive style. She discovered Acrylics, and loves the versatility and atmosphere that she can achieve. Gaye spends hours at the beach, gaining inspiration, absorbing the ever-changing light, how it casts it's shadows one moment then the sun peeps through spreading dappled sparkles and patterns over the surface of the water; how one day it can be calm and mesmerising, the next day dramatic, with crashing waves causing deep swells producing spectacular sprays.
Gaye's work is painted from her mind, imagination and soul. She endeavours to capture drama and atmosphere to draw the viewer into her paintings as if they were there. Her approach and style of painting has evolved, and aims to represent emotion, focusing on her own personal interpretation and feelings for the subject. As she paints, her work comes alive. During its evolving development, initially she has no vision, and never knows what will happen, until it happens. It just becomes.
Gaye loves experimenting with different mediums to achieve interesting textures. The main thing that excites her about painting is the constant journey of learning and improving her skills. She currently teaches painting techniques one day a week in her Garden Studio and attains a great satisfaction from sharing her passion and watching their skills unfold and develop. Gaye carries out Day Seascape workshops, both at her Studio and for local Art groups.
