By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Erin Pryor Gill (born 1981 in Maryland, USA).

Erin Pryor Gill is an artist currently living in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, where she is inspired daily by the surrounding landscape and historic architecture. Erin grew up in Maryland, where her love for drawing began early. She still remembers the breakthrough that came at age four, when she tried to draw a person wearing overalls and realized that legs do not sprout directly from the chin, nor arms from the side of the head! Her subsequent artistic advances have often come after similar, albeit more sophisticated, observations of the world around her.

After two years at Alfred University, where she majored in painting and printmaking, Erin graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in Illustration.  She worked as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer for several years before taking a break to concentrate on her family. Erin and her husband have three young boys. In addition to pursuing her own artwork, Erin loves introducing her sons to the joy of painting and creating.

Erin is influenced by the work of great artists of the past, including the Group of Seven and the Pennsylvania Impressionists. Over the past few years she has gotten hooked on painting outdoors, in addition to studio work.

Erin's artworks have been juried into a number of plein air events, including Plein Air Brandywine Valley and Paint Out Chadds Ford.

She is a member of Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, and was recently awarded Honorable Mention in their 2016 Cityscape show.

                     ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Painting outdoors allows me to fully immerse myself in the landscape.  I enjoy the brilliant color and sense of immediacy that comes from painting directly from life.  It’s a compelling challenge to capture the transient effects of light as the sun moves across the sky. The elements can add their own difficulties (numb hands in the cold, blowing canvas in the wind) as well as their own pleasures (warm sun on my back, soothing sounds of a creek rushing), but all of it contributes to the final painting.
