By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary British landscape painter David Barber (born 1968 in Cheshire, England).

Like many artists, David's artistic roots began during his childhood. His interest in art as a child was encouraged by a nurturing family and like many children this support was all it took to spur him on to improve his skills. Following an Art foundation course David completed an apprenticeship in the art studios of Johnson Matthey PLC, where he was involved in the production of ceramic transfers for the local pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent. Inspired to develop further, David enrolled in a Creative Arts course at Manchester Metropolitan University where he received an honorary degree in the subject. Following this David worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in local design studios producing illustrations for a number of aviation publications. In fact aviation became an influential part of David's work, as he became involved in the sport of gliding. The sport gave David a deep appreciation and understanding of cloud formations and a love for the British countryside. Over time both of these elements have become a major feature of his work.

David has used a variety of media over the years, but recently has settled on oils as his preferred medium. He was initially influenced by artists such as Heaton Cooper and Peter Symonds, both famous for their renditions of the English Lake District which David loves so much. More recently David has been influenced by the American artist Richard Schmid as well as the Australian artist, John McCartin.

David's work is featured in several galleries in the English Lake District, including The Northern Lights gallery in Keswick and the Cookhouse galleries in Windermere, Keswick and Ambleside. His work has recently appeared at the Malvern theatres and very shortly will also be on show at Spencer House Gallery in Tetbury, Gloucestershire.

                     ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“Over the years painting has become a personal journey of discovery for me. It's only recently that I've began to realize that someone else's view of the world is exactly that; someone else's view of the world! My intention is therefore to look and think carefully about what 'I' see and ensure that I capture this in my painting. I want my paintings to tell the truth. We all see the world differently, but maybe in my paintings you'll see something that resonates with you too.
