By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Jane Ramsey (born 1958 in West Hartford, Connecticut).

Born in CT, Jane Deborah (Simonson) Ramsey and her parents moved to Bucks County in 1960 and settled in the little village of Lumberville, along the banks of the Delaware Canal and River.

During her high school years, her parents took two teaching contracts overseas and Jane spent four years on the island of Palau in Micronesia and in American Samoa, South Pacific. Each time her family returned to their home in Lumberville.

Growing up in Lumberville, Jane was immersed in a community of artists. Early jobs were babysitting for artists’ children so they could paint in their studios. Friends and neighbors were artists with working studios where Jane would visit and observe. Jane’s father was as woodworker and part of a gallery in New Hope along with other wood artists such as Nakashima and James Martin. Her mother was a poet and writer and played an important role in encouraging Jane to observe and draw to her hearts content.

Her parents’ encouragement and nurturing of her interest in art was so important. There was always a steady supply of art materials and her father would bring art books home from the high school library where he was a teacher. Endless hours sketching and filling pages of sketchbooks made up a huge part of Jane’s childhood. The path towards art school was always in sight.

College began at Edinboro State in Pennsylvania and Jane pursued serious art studies at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. Cornish, a small private art college that was dedicated to the studies of the arts including theatre, printmaking, fine art, music and graphic design, was an ideal learning environment. Jane was attracted to the small class sizes with working artists for professors and the broad curriculum where she could study and take classes in all disciplines. She graduated with a BFA in design with an emphasis on illustration.

Jane has been published in the book “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid Atlantic,” by Gary Pendleton, Schiffer Publishing. In addition to her paintings, Jane is a published illustrator of children’s books. Her recent book “Madam President - Five Women Who Paved the Way,” by Nichola Gutgold featured Jane’s watercolor illustrations of five women who ran for the presidency.

Jane has also participated in many plein air juried art events and group shows in the Mid Atlantic region. Notable awards include Best of Show in Bennington Vermont Plein Air, (2011), People's Choice award in Camp Hill Plein Air (2012), and Honorable Mention in Paint the Town Plein Air Chestertown, Maryland (2016). Jane’s work was also recognized with a Second Place award in the Barn and Covered Bridges Show (2014) hosted by Rich Timmons Gallery, Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In 2016, Jane was featured in the Philadelphia Intelligencer newspaper as part of the Bucks County artist studio tour.

Jane is an active member of the New Hope Art League and the Bucks County Illustrators Society. She lives on a horse farm with her husband, daughter and their horses, dogs and cats in Bedminster Township, Bucks County.
