By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary American landscape painter Catherine Caulfield Russell (born 1956 in Manhattan, New York).

Catherine Caulfield Russell is a contemporary painter of New England marine and countryside scenes and New York Beaches who merges contemporary with classical. Nature is her inspiration. She paints outdoors on location to capture the ever-changing face of nature, noting the various aspects of sky, land, motion and the elapsing changes of light.

Catherine is influenced by the work of 19th Century American Tonalists and Impressionists, but her contemporary training provides a fresh take on the subject. In Catherine's oil paintings, landscape is presented in a sweeping expressive state; suspended between earth and sky. She explores her subjects in a visceral, intuitive manner following the autonomous nature of paint.

As a teen, Caulfield Russell began plein air landscape painting in Montauk, New York. She went on to formal art training at Jacksonville University (BFA), and Queens College (MS). Currently she is the associate director of a New York Art Gallery, and an active member of the Lyme Art Association, The National Association of Women Artists and several other art associations. Caulfield Russell’s prints and paintings are in private collections throughout the country. Her paintings have exhibited in The Lyman Allen Museum.

           ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“To achieve my personal approach to landscape painting, I go straight to nature for inspiration. To capture the ever-changing face of nature, my paintings have been made in “Plein-air,” noting the ever-varying aspects of sky and land, motion and light.”
