           ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Pulling out my box of pastels is akin to the feeling I get when opening a wonderful story that has yet to be read. What story will I paint today? When I was a child, my grandmother put a paintbrush in my hand and gave me a small, smooth rock to paint. Eventually, the rock became paper and the paper became canvas and my Grandmother and I, we giggled and sang.

In my memory, the landscapes of childhood are brilliant and gentle, saturated and soft. I want to create beauty and happiness in my paintings through graceful skies, soft fields of grass, and shady thick trees.

My chosen medium of pastel allows me to work with brilliance and immediacy and at my own rhythm. I paint daily in my home studio with one sweet cat named “Boo” as my very own studio assistant.”
