  Feature Artist Bio

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter, Jeff Troupe (born 1979 in Napa, California).

Jeff always dreamed of making his living creating landscape oil paintings since he first picked up the medium growing up in Napa, California.  At the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, he was introduced to plein air painting in the California Impressionist style by notable artists Brian Blood and Randall Sexton.  The bold, expressive brushstrokes and vibrant color that characterize this style appealed to him instantly and heavily influences him to this day.

Jeff earned his BFA in Computer Animation and began creating artwork in the computer games industry shortly thereafter.  After nine years in the industry he began to evaluate the course of his career and life.  After an onslaught of serious personal trials, Jeff reaffirmed his faith in Jesus Christ and immediately began to view his life in a vastly different manner.  Many aspects of his life were immediately transformed.  It was also clear that his God-given abilities as an oil painter were going to waste.  He abandoned the 'safe' career track and dedicated himself to his fine art career.

In 2013, Jeff and his wife went against the grain and conventional wisdom, and moved away from the Bay Area to Alturas California, a lightly populated frontier town in the north east corner of the state.  The following year they continued on their journey north, and realized their dream of living in the Flathead Valley region of Montana

The area’s majestic peaks, big skies, and rustic barns, have a striking beauty all their own.  Jeff describes it as the most beautiful place he has ever been.  Jeff paints outside almost daily and utilizes those studies, along with photographic references, to complete larger-scale works.  Being outside and immersed in his subject matter is the most thrilling thing to him about landscape painting.  By observing nature so closely, the beauty and the genius of the Creation becomes clearly visible.  Jeff's goal is to glorify God with his paintings by sharing the unique way in which he sees the world around him.
