By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by South African

landscape painter Roelof Rossouw (born 1957, in Johannesburg, South Africa).

An Impressionist oil painter of romantic destinations around the world, Roelof has traveled widely, visiting France, Brussels, Spain, Istanbul, Ukraine, Greece, Italy, Austria, Holland, Egypt, Dubai, Israel, England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Zanzibar, and The Caribbean.

He grew up in Benoni, near Johannesburg, where he started drawing aircraft at the age of four and painted his first oil at the age of fourteen.

 

Roelof studied Graphic Design in Johannesburg, earning a National Diploma

From 1982-1990 he worked as a graphic artist and medical illustrator. He started painting on a daily basis in 1992. In 
1994 his work was accepted by a popular gallery in Johannesburg and has shown his paintings in solo exhibitions every year since, selling to top-brass clients. Since 1995 Roelof has worked from home full-time and independently.

 

Roelof works mainly in oils, but also in collage, acrylic, pastel and mixed medium. He loves painting landscapes, vineyards, harbours, street scenes, parks, gardens, private homes and farms, interiors, figures, portraits and children.

- 1988-2017 40 solo exhibitions to date, locally and internationally. 
- 1999 Three-man at the Gate House Gallery, Glasgow
- 1991-2007 Group exhibitions in South Africa, London, Cheltenham, Glasgow, Jersey, Galway, Amargh, San Francisco, Miami and New York.

Awards

First Prize - Front Cover Competition of Eric Bolsmans' book on Pretoria Illustrated.

"Painting for me is all about capturing the effect of sunlight and the juxtaposition of colour and tone. I simply want to delight the visual senses and therefore subject matter is merely a tool I use.” ​
