                       ARTIST'S STATEMENT

As a watercolor painter, I often choose familiar landscape and urban subjects, transforming and reinventing them, with my own vision, and personal expression. I create my work by painting from life, from source materials and from imagination, based on travels and observations. I am more concerned about “telling a story in paint”--sharing a personal idea, emotion or feeling about each subject--than with realism and local conditions. Color and light figure strongly in all of my work.

My global travels and love of historical places influence my choice of subjects, ranging from the beautiful Texas Hill Country where I live, to urban subjects in New York, London, Rome and Paris and landscape settings in the United States, England, France and Italy.

I enjoy spending hours each week exploring, photographing, sketching and studying simple subjects and vistas which may often be taken for granted, if consciously considered at all.
