By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Jeanne Rosier Smith (born 1966 in Silver Spring, Maryland).

Award-winning Sudbury, MA artist Jeanne Rosier Smith studied art at Georgetown University and at the New Jersey Center for Visual Art and the DuCret School of Art in New Jersey. After earning her Ph.D. and spending ten years teaching college English, she began painting professionally when her youngest child started school in 2004.

Smith first discovered pastels in 1999, and fell in love at first touch. She is best known for her active, dramatic seascapes, her opulent food still lifes, and her expressive portraits. Her year spent in Nice, France, in a dorm room with a sea view began a lifelong love of the water—one she continues to explore in her popular seascape series. She returns to the cape and islands of the Massachusetts coast year round, and she's fascinated with the challenge and potential of painting crashing water with dry pastel.

Jeanne is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the Connecticut Pastel Society and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, an IAPS Master’s Circle Member, and a juried artist member of the Copley Society, the Salmagundi Club and Academic Artists of America. She has exhibited at the Massachusetts State House, the Boston Artists Guild, and nationally at the Pastel Society of America, the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Arts Club and American Artist Professional League shows, among others.

Smith has won numerous awards, including the IAPS
Prix de Pastel, the Grand Prize in

International Artist Magazine's Seascapes Competition, and the Art Spirit Foundation Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Pastel, and has placed in the Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100 in 2013, 2014 & 2015. Her work has appeared in

International Artist Magazine, American Art Collectorand The Pastel Journal.

Jeanne's paintings are in collections on

four continents. She is represented by Gallery 31, Orleans MA, Sosebee Gallery on Nantucket, Powers Gallery in Acton MA, Francesca Anderson Fine Art in Lexington MA, and Cecil Byrne Gallery in Charleston, SC.

Smith is a popular demonstrator and teacher: her Sudbury pastel studio offers weekly classes and weekend workshops. 2015-16 Workshops are scheduled for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Florida, plus travel tours in Provence and Croatia.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"Since first touching pastel over fifteen years ago, I rarely paint in any other medium: I fell in love with the velvety richness, the pure color, the direct touch which pastel alone affords.

"The year I spent in Nice, France, in a dorm room with a sea view, began my lifelong love of the water—one I am currently exploring in my wave series. It also nurtured my appreciation for wine, cheese, and fresh produce, which I find as appealing to light, arrange, and paint as to taste. Painting is a feast for the senses. Enjoy!"
