By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Kahne Smith (born 1959 in Virginia).

Kahne grew up traveling with her military family. Every few years, a new town or country would become home. Her sketches provided a reference point, a sense of place in her travels. What began as visual breadcrumbs along her path became a poetic journey with pastels.

Kahne and her husband have shared their lives for nearly 30 years. They spent nearly that long building a logistics company. Being an entrepreneur was a time-consuming enterprise, but Kahne always made room for art. Her sketchbook was filled with trees and value studies between sales calls, and many days she started at 3 a.m. so she could get up and paint.

In 1995 Kahne undertook an advanced education in the fine arts at MFAH/Glassell School of Art. In addition to formal instruction, she has been honored to study with Richard McKinley, Albert Handell and Elizabeth Mowry at the Woodstock School of Art.

Pastels have always been her preferred medium, due to their immediacy and vibrancy.

Kahne's paintings are currently held in corporate and individual collections throughout the United States and Europe. Her home and studio are north of Houston, backing up to pine woods and surrounded by a lake.

Kahne enjoys associate memberships in the:

          - Pastel Society of the West Coast

          - Pastel Society of America, 2011

          - Degas Pastel Society 2014

          - Southeastern Pastel Society

          - Pastel Society of the Southwest

         - American Impressionist Society

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"My photography and paintings describe how light defines our journey. Whether the landscape is shadowed Texas forest or the vast skies of Montana, everything we see is defined by light.

Sometimes light surrounds the edges, other times it blazes across the sky. I hope my paintings sing of memories painted in silence, and my photography illustrates the art so abundant in nature.

I have always been an artist. Sketching as a child, drawing nature, always creating with my hands.  The challenge of capturing and pinning light and shadows onto a page never grows old."
