Jim and his wife Jeanette have lived in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Arkansas, and also spent two years in Saudi Arabia. After retiring from technical work in 2001, Jim and Jeanette moved south to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where Jim began his art studies at National Park College in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He has studied watercolor painting in workshops presented by nationally-known artists including Sterling Edwards, Alvero Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic, Fabio Cembranelli, and Tony Couch.
Jim's paintings have won many awards, including two First Places in the Diamond National Juried Exhibit and the Gold Award in the Mid-Southern Watercolorists Annual Exhibit. His original watercolors can be found in private collections in over 30 states and 7 countries, and in the permanent collection of the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Jim is a member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and the Central Ohio Watercolor Society, and a signature member of Mid-Southern Watercolorists.
Jim's paintings are on display from time to time at various local venues. He is available to provide watercolor painting demonstrations to area art groups. You will find his artwork displayed online at www.jimoberst.com, and links there to his blog and various social media accounts, as well as a link to subscribe to his fine art newsletter.
Jim and Jeanette recently moved back to Ohio, and live in Pataskala, just east of Columbus. They have three adult children and two grandchildren. Jim, a private pilot, built a Glasair airplane that he and Jeanette have traveled in extensively.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“My artistic goal is to create paintings that are engaging and beautiful, paintings that awaken feelings of pleasure, nostalgia, fascination, and curiosity.
I'm particularly drawn to the landscape and seascape. I strive to record the parts of the world that I've seen in a way that their essence and spirit can be discerned and appreciated. ”
