By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by contemporary
Australian landscape painter John Rice (born 1953 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland).
John Rice moved to Australia at age seven. He paints almost exclusively in oils and is inspired by the strong light of the Australian landscape. He enjoys painting the landscape from life, “en plein air,” and engages in regular painting trips to country locations.
John has no formal art education but learned most from getting out there and painting hundreds of paintings. He is largely self-taught but has benefitted greatly from early workshops with Robert Wilson FRAS and John Wilson FRAS, and the friendship and mentoring of Allan Fizzell. His primary influences have been the Heidleberg School of Australian impressionists and the work of Sir Hans Heysen.
John was a teacher by profession and uses these skills to conduct workshops and demonstrations both at his home studio in Mulgoa and for many Sydney and country art groups. He is also called upon as a judge for art society exhibitions.
John has held numerous successful solo exhibitions and is represented by the following galleries:
