"Bringing the Museum to You"

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter Chad Smith (born 1970 in Indiana).

 

Chad Smith spent his formative years exploring woodlands, streams and ponds that imparted an unshakeable love for the landscape. The focus of Smith’s work is the changing light and mood found only in the outdoors. He can be found painting in the field year-round in every season. Smith prefers a direct-yet-studied approach to his landscape plein air painting that melds the benefit of observation with sound artistic principles. It has been said that his work is "Not just ‘a scene,’"  but a real statement about something, yet not forced or melodramatic.”

 

Smith has gallery representation in New York, Colorado, Maryland and Florida also having both solo and group exhibitions. He has shown in national juried exhibitions and invitationals

and participated in landscape plein air painting events from the East Coast to the West, including: Plein Air Easton!, Easton, MD (Honorable Mention 2012); American Impressionist Society’s Annual National Juried Exhibition, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA, and Charleston, SC, Plein Air Richmond, Richmond, VA; Door County Plein Air Festival, Fish Creek, WI; Crested Butte Plein Air Invitational, Crested Butte, CO; Finger Lakes Plein Air Competition, Canandaigua, NY (Best of Show 2014), (Honorable Mention 2012); Windham Fine Arts, Windham, NY; Old Forge Art Center, Old Forge, NY; CNY Gallery, Cazenovia, NY; Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute, Utica, NY; Laumeister Competition at the Bennington Center for the Arts, the State University of New York and the Center for the Arts in Lake Placid, NY (Third Prize 2009).

In 2011 Chad spent a month painting and teaching in Ireland. Originally from the Midwest, Smith currently resides in New Hartford, NY with his wife, Erin, and chocolate lab Sargent.
