By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two

12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter R. Gregory Summers (born 1957 in Manhattan, Kansas).

Gregory was born in the Flint Hills of Kansas with 4 sisters and 1 brother. His father was a cowboy- turned-truck driver and his mother a stay-at-home Mom.

Greg served in the USAF at the end of the Vietnam War, then studied art at Johnson County Community College on the GI Bill. There he met Professor Jean Howard, and learned painting.

His professional career as an artist began in 1979 at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Missouri, where he learned the art of sculpting in metal and continued as a Master Engraver for the next 30 years.

At the end of the 70's and early 80's Gregory began competing in National and International painting competitions and winning. However, Greg discontinued painting while he cared for a growing family

The 21st century saw many changes in Gregory's life. Eschewing drugs and alcohol, and with the support of his loving wife, Susie, he resumed his true passion--painting.

After discovering the joy of plein air painting, Greg took a Continuing Education course at the Kansas City Art Institute, taught by Anne Garney. In late 2011 he met Rick Howell, who mentored him until that artist's untimely death. Rick was one of the most-talented artists that Gregory ever met and a true inspiration for his own career.

Along with with Jeff Sparks, Brent Seevers and

Rachel Mindrup, Gregory formed the Missouri

Valley Impressionist Society, whose mission is to help other artists and art lovers find a place they could live, learn, and share art in the wonderful region they call home.

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I believe that one can help themselves best by helping others. I don’t try to inspire, or be any sort of model. I am an imperfect soul, and look to be spending my life here learning as I can. I have a lot of experience I can share; if that inspires another in some manner I am honored."
