By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two

12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist painter LaVone Sterling (born 1937 in Richmond, California).

LaVone Sterling, P.S A. , is an award-winning California Artist who paints primarily with pastel. A life-long artist, LaVone began using pastels as a medium about four years ago when she decided to join her three daughters in a pastel workshop. After working with pastel artist Leslie Harrison (whose creative specialty is horses), LaVone became enamored of the rich color and buttery application of the pastel stick. She discovered a vibrant quality not seen in other mediums. She then decided to seek additional pastel mentorship, studying under talented artists Tina MooreKim Lordier, Clark Mitchell and master painter Richard McKinley.

LaVone is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA); the Sierra Pastel Society (SPS)  and the Alliance of California Artists (ACA).  She is also a associate member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC)  and several  local art organizations. LaVone has a Master's Degree in Art from California State University, Fresno and is a former Community College instructor.

LaVone's 2014 International Awards include

Pastel Society of America's Enduring Brillance, the Pastelagram Award.

LaVone's painting "Golden Glow"  dons the cover of a plein aire landscape set of Sennilier Pastels

unveiled in January 2015.

Her work is represented in both public and private collections throughout the country.  She is married and lives with her husband and 2 dogs in Visalia, CA.  She has 3 adult daughters and 6 grandchildren. Her home is approximately 33 miles from the entrance of Sequoia National Park  -  thus many of her landscapes are of the Sierra Mountains and the surrounding foothills and rivers.  When possible she paints plein air and enjoys the nearby river as a favorite subject. Her work can be seen in The Sense of Place Art Gallery,  Fresno, CA.   She accepts commissioned pet portraits in pastel. She can be contacted at 559 909 5542.

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"It is an honor  to win an award for something I have painted, but the best reward for me is learning that my work has touched the heart of someone.  It is the quiet peacefulness I experience while painting that I hope is passed on to the viewer.  It is after all God's exquisite world we share. What could be better?"
