  Feature Artist Bio

By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American landscape artist Jan Moffatt (born 1951 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina).

Art has always been at the core of Jan's life. As a child she played along the coast of Connecticut, in swamps and on beaches,
painting the water and weeds and sky and fields. She was totally mesmerizedtransported by the power and beauty of nature.

After receiving a B.A. with a concentration in painting, from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1973, Jan E. Moffatt built a career as an award-winning graphic designer, illustrator, and painter. She owned a design firm in Old Town Alexandria for several years. Closing the business in the late 80s, she retained some of her design clients and returned to her passion—painting. She joined The Art League in Alexandria, began entering shows and volunteering in the gallery. She served on the Board of Directors from 1998-2007.  She joined the Loft Gallery, in Occoquan, in 1991 and opened a studio in the adjoining Loft Art Center in 2006.

Jan is a past member of The Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, The Washington Project for the Arts, and The Society of Arts in Healthcare

Jan still feels the thrill of immersing herself in the landscape and playing with paint! She strives to take the viewer on a journey into the landscape, across the field... away from their day-to-day problems. Jan says she falls more in love with painting everyday and is excited to share her work with you.

                ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"My favorite method of painting is to create from my imagination. I let the paintings lead me. The paintings are daydreams, imaginings, meditations of places remembered or dreamt.

As an intuitive painter, I paint from the inside out. Communicating the feeling of a certain moment in time is more important than replicating an exact scene."
