By permission of the artistThe Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece Exhibitions of works by American contemporary Impressionist Bob Russin (born 1949 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania).

Bob has lived all of his life in the surrounding Wyoming Valley area.  He received his BA in Art Education from Wilkes College in 1971 with graduate work in fine arts at Marywood University and the University of Scranton, studying under Herb Simon, Bernice D’Vorzon, Phil Richards, and the late Hope Horn.

Bob retired from public school teaching after 34 years of service, and  renewed his interest in pastel painting upon retirement.  Bob quips that he bartered his first pastel painting at age 12 in exchange for a used Mitchell fishing reel. Later his work sold for considerably more in NYC after winning the National Arts Award in 2008 at the annual Pastel Society of America Exhibition at the National Arts Club

Bob has been recognized for meritorious work across the country including the Pastel Society of the West Coast, the Maryland Pastel Society and, most noteworthy, the Butler Museum of American ArtGiffuni Gallery, Youngstown,

Ohio.

In 2014 he received the Audubon Award for excellence at the Salmagundi Club, where his work will be on display May 26 - June 5, 2015, in the upper gallery, Forty-Seven Fifth Avenue, New York, NY. Bob’s artwork also has been included in numerous publications including the Richeson International Pastels, and the Pastel Journal.

Bob Russin is a Signature Artist of the Pastel Society of America, and he is also a Signature Artist member of the Maryland Pastel Society.

               ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"These paintings are my humble attempt to capture within a picture frame a fleeting moment that artists - regardless of medium- have been chasing for centuries. It is an effort to imprison within a frame a magical ephemeral instant, shared with us from a more perfect place."
