By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by Australian landscape painter Margaret Morgan (born 1945 in Melbourne, Australia).

Margaret has always been interested in art and, in particular, painting. She considers herself fortunate to have grown up with wonderful teachers, who were both innovative and progressive. When her children attended kindergarten, she took up oil painting, tutored by Ron Reynolds and Marion Bruere. Her first masterpiece was a painting of Beethoven’s death mask. Reynolds taught her tonal painting by having his students choose their subjects from black and white photographs. He also took the class on Sunday morning field trips.

Margaret took watercolor lessons from Julie Ford at Mitcham Art Society, where she was Treasurer and Secretary for several years prior to moving to Kilmore in 2001. She took two years of watercolor lessons from David K. Taylor, and attended workshops given by Alvaro Castagnet, Amanda Hyatt and Joseph Zbukvic.

Margaret’s work has been exhibited via the Mitcham Art Society around the local shopping centres. Her paintings have been sold at the Blackwood Gallery at the Meat Market Melbourne (when it was the State’s Craft Centre); Custom Wharf Gallery, Williamstown; Spectrum Gallery, North Balwyn; Beryl’s Gallery, Bundoora; Claudia Louise Gallery, Ivanhoe; The Stockyard Gallery, Foster; Makers-on-Mair, Ballarat as well as the local art shows – St. Theresa’s, Essendon; Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Bentleigh; St. Edwards, Blackburn South; Parade College, Bundoora; Loyola, Bundoora to name a few. She has also exhibited at Rotary Art Show, with Camberwell Rotary being a favourite. In recent years Margaret has had solo exhibitions at the MAD Gallery in Lancefield, Gillmay Arts in Romsey and the Heathcote Winery Gallery.

Margaret has received awards judged by such noted artists as Carl Anderson, David K. Taylor, Richard Chamerski and Kevin Boucher. She recently received an Honourable Mention for a silk painting at the Art Beyond the Divide Art Show, judged by the assistant curator of the Benalla Art Gallery and another Honourable Mention for a silk painting at Kilmore’s Art Expo. She received 1st price for oil at Broadford’s Art Show Feb 2015 and 1st prize for an oil painting Oct 2015 at Seymour Show, together with 2nd place for a watercolor of King Parrot Creek. Many of her paintings have been purchased by interstate and overseas buyers. She has been commissioned to paint Australian landscapes in watercolour for hanging in Malaysia.

Silk painting is strongly emerging as one of Margaret's favorite mediums, with two of her three silk paintings receiving Honourable Mentions at prestigious shows. She attended a Charcoal ‘faces’ workshop recently which was fun, and has also tried Encaustic wax paintings. Since early childhood Margaret has also had a keen interest in photography.

Margaret is a member of the Seymour Art Society, the Woodend Art Group and The Kilmore Art Society.

             ARTISTS'S STATEMENT

"I have always been interested in photography and painting, These days I mainly paint in watercolor or acrylic, and occasionally have a dabble in pastel. Though recently I have rekindled the love of using oils, and have experimented with silk painting."
