By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the first of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter Tammy Kaufman (born 1961 in Texas, USA).

Born in southern Texas, Tammy Kaufman grew up in the Piedmont of North Carolina after traveling the United States and Europe with her family as a youngster.
Though primarily self-taught as an artist, she has studied pastels with Addren Doss and Pamela Poole as well as participating in online pastel courses with Robert Sloan, Karen Margulis, Johannes Vloothuis and Richard McKinley. Additionally, she has taken a drawing course with Dan Nelson and a workshop in acrylics with Kimberlee Maselli, and continues to take classes and workshops to further her progression in the arts.

Tammy is a member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina, Southeastern Pastel Society, Oil Pastel Society, Fine Arts League of Cary, North Carolina Plein Air Painters and PaintNC, and is a juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America. Her paintings have been juried into multiple shows across North Carolina and hang in private collections throughout the United States.

A former competitive endurance mountain bike racer, Tammy currently resides in Wake Forest, North Carolina, with her husband, Steve, and adopted pets, Frylie and Venus. Now retired from competitive cycling, she continues to cherish the wonders of nature through her landscape paintings, and donates regularly to natural preservation and animal charities.

            ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Yes, I paint pastoral landscapes, a seemingly benign and typical subject. But if you look closer, you’ll notice it’s very rare to see any architecture or manmade structures in my works, and rarer still to find any human figures in them, if at all. That is not by accident. Although I’m not naïve nor jaded, and I do believe the world is full of kind, compassionate and wonderful people, all one has to do is watch five minutes of world news to see what a heart of darkness so many of our species have toward one another, animals, and even the earth itself. My landscapes are painted as an homage to Mother Nature and envision a world sans the destructive forces of man, with scenes welcoming the viewer in as the first one to see them.”
