  Feature Artist Bio

By permission of the artist, The Cyber Art Show is pleased to feature the second of two 12-piece exhibitions of works by American landscape painter S. Lynne Price (born 1957 in Virginia, USA).

Lynne has been an artist her entire life. She recalls doodling and daydreaming incessantly in elementary school. Despite being chastised for doodling in class and being "elsewhere," she persisted in drawing and fantasizing, developing her powerful visualization skills.

Lynne classifies herself as a Romantic Intuitive Impressionist. While many of her paintings are en plein air or from life, most of her work comes from her imagination. Her work is always informed by her direct experience of nature and memories, in particular the effect of light on color, known as full-color seeing. Additionally, she is a tetrachromat and can see hundreds, if not thousands, of colors.

A self-taught painter, her biggest influences have been the French and American Impressionists, particularly Pierre Auguste Renoir (in his Iridescent Period), Oscar Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, and Frederick Frieseke. After attending a breathtaking Morisot exhibition at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, TX, Lynne began developing her impressionist style with a superhuman passion.

The unusual aspect of Lynne's work is her finger painting method, often using both hands to facilitate speed and impasto application. Currently, she is the only known Impressionist using her fingers to paint.

Lynne has been juried into numerous gallery shows and two shows sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts; she was commissioned to design, execute and oversee the production of two 9' x 54' murals for a mega church; her work is in many private collections and she is currently represented by the Alley Gallery in Brigels, Switzerland.

          ARTIST'S STATEMENT

“My focus is on the landscape and bodies of water, sometimes including a romantic or mythical figure. My inspiration is the fleeting effect of light on color in the landscape; it's pure magic when you can feel the sun and take in the fresh air. There has been a lot of interest in my method and I am open to teaching finger painting in my impressionist style.”
