              ARTIST'S STATEMENT

"I am drawn to beauty in nature. This can be a simple view of a field of grass or a grand vista. I often bring my watercolors hiking and traveling, but predominantly use oils in the studio. I feel my knowledge of the earth gets infused into my work with cloud patterns, plants, and rocks. Hours spent on the lake shore, beach, or hiking in the forest translate into a feeling expressed on canvas that cannot be duplicated by working from photos.

My aim is to convey a special sense of place, but not record every detail. Instead, I want to create an impression of what it means to know a place. "
